We are researching how to help displaced people on the ground, including how to assess local partners, account for funds and understand delivery constraints. We are not collecting donations or running a direct relief fund at this stage. For now, the links below take you to established humanitarian organizations’ own donation pages.
Ways to support people now
Choose an organization to read its appeal and donate on its official website. These links are starting points for your own decision, not a ranking of the “best” charities.
UNHCR
The UN Refugee Agency
UNHCR’s Ethiopia appeal describes assistance for people forced to flee, including clean water, shelter kits and hygiene supplies.
Ethiopia emergency appeal. Check the receiving office, donation terms and allocation details on UNHCR’s form.
ICRC
International Committee of the Red Cross
The ICRC’s Ethiopia appeal describes its work to reach communities affected by fighting and the needs of people displaced or returning home.
The appeal says donations go where they are needed most. An Ethiopia-focused page does not guarantee that your gift is restricted to Ethiopia.

Why we are taking time over direct support
Restrictions on civil society and access to funds deserve careful attention. In 2012, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and CIVICUS reported a court decision upholding the freezing of two Ethiopian rights organizations’ assets following restrictions introduced in 2009. That case predates Abiy Ahmed’s government. Read the joint statement ↗
In January 2025, Human Rights Watch reported the suspension of five prominent rights groups in late 2024. These are documented cases affecting named organizations; they do not establish that every donation from abroad is blocked or that the linked humanitarian appeals are currently suspended. Help should reach people with dignity
Before we launch an initiative of our own, we want a clear account of who receives support, how local partners work and how results can be reported without exposing vulnerable people. We will publish those details before asking readers to entrust us with money. Until then, please use the official links above and review each organization’s current terms and appeal.
